Why your website isn't generating enquiries (and how to fix it)

The most common reasons business websites get visitors but no enquiries, from slow mobile pages to hidden contact details, with practical fixes for each.

Many business owners have the same complaint: "We have a website, but it doesn't bring us anything." Usually the problem is not one big mistake but several small ones that each lose a few visitors. Here are the most common causes, and what to do about each.

1. It is slow on a phone

Most of your visitors are on mobile, often on a mid-range Android phone. If the page takes several seconds to appear, many will leave before they see anything.

Fix: compress and resize images, remove plugins and scripts you don't use, use good hosting, and test the site on a real phone over mobile data, not just on office Wi-Fi.

2. Visitors can't tell what you do in five seconds

A headline like "Welcome to our website" or "Excellence in everything we do" tells visitors nothing.

Fix: say what you do, for whom and where, in the first line. For example: "Physiotherapy clinic in Indirapuram for sports and back injuries." Then show proof straight after.

3. The next step isn't obvious

If the phone number is hidden in the footer and the contact form is on a separate page with ten fields, people give up.

Fix: add a clear button to call, WhatsApp or enquire on every page, especially on mobile. Keep forms short: name, phone and what they need is usually enough.

4. There is no proof

People buy from businesses they trust. Without photos of real work, reviews, client names or results, your site looks like any other.

Fix: add real photos of your team, premises and work, short case studies with results, and genuine reviews. Link to your Google reviews.

5. It is written for you, not your customers

Pages full of company history, mission statements and jargon don't answer the questions a customer has.

Fix: write the way you would explain things to a customer on the phone. Answer the common questions directly: what it costs (or what decides the cost), how long it takes, what happens next.

6. Nobody can find it on Google

A good website that nobody visits still brings no enquiries.

Fix: give every important page a clear title and heading with the words people search for, set up and optimise your Google Business Profile, and make sure the site has a sitemap and loads fast. Local SEO is often the quickest win for local businesses.

7. You are not tracking anything

If you don't know how many people visit, where they come from and how many enquire, you can't tell what to fix.

Fix: set up Google Analytics 4 with tracking for form submissions, phone clicks and WhatsApp clicks. Check it every month.

8. The design is out of date

An old design makes a business look less established, even if the work is excellent.

Fix: you don't always need a full rebuild. Sometimes a refreshed homepage, better photos and clearer calls to action are enough. If the site is slow, hard to update or broken on mobile, a redesign is usually the better investment.

Where to start

Start with the fixes that cost least and help most: clear headline, visible contact buttons, a shorter form and real proof. Then work on speed, SEO and tracking.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a new website to get more enquiries?

Not always. Many sites improve a lot with a clearer headline, visible contact options, faster pages and real proof. A redesign makes sense when the site is slow, hard to update or broken on phones.

How do I know how many enquiries my website brings?

Set up Google Analytics 4 with conversion tracking for forms, calls and WhatsApp clicks, and ask every new customer how they found you.
